MSc Regional and Urban Planning Studies began 2016 with a big bang when our own RUPS alumna (2014/15), Martina Manara, was successful in winning crowd funding for her innovative refugee networking App, “HI HERE”. The ‘Bright Ideas’ event – sponsored by LSE and Santander and hosted by YTFN, LSE Students Union RAG, and LSE Careers – drew an enthusiastic crowd from all over the Capital and beyond, providing a dynamic platform for participants to launch their ideas and attract funding. “Refugees often struggle to empower themselves as their voices cannot reach other refugees, institutions and wider society”, Manara told the crowd.
When fully developed, “HI HERE” will help ‘forced migrants’ to see a brighter future by enabling them to break down barriers and build social networks between refugee and host communities.
