Dr Romola Sanyal has been awarded a Rapid-Response Grant from Social Science Research Council, USA, on Covid-19 and the Social Sciences for project: ‘Containment and Distrust: Impacts of Covid-19 responses and historical containment on city making from below in Nairobi’. The project compares current containment measures to combat Covid-19 with Nairobi’s history, examining poor residents’ responses to containment both historical and current, and how containment measures are affecting poor peoples’ abilities to partake in city making— their ability to shape their own neighbourhoods and communities in political, social, economic, or spatial ways.
