Dr Laura Antona, a PhD alumna in Human Geography and Urban Studies and currently an ESRC Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, has given a talk on 9th December 2020 at LSE Saw Swee Hock Southeast Asia Centre as part of the Centre’s seminar series.
In her talk entitled “Foreign, ‘Fresh’ and 173cm: The Commodification of Domestic Workers in Singapore“, Dr Antona drew on ethnographic research that she conducted in Singapore, and demonstrated how employment agencies commodify and sell domestic labourers, shaping their relationships with their employers and the spaces in which they live and work: namely, the home space.
