Can design make higher density development more acceptable in the suburbs? A new video featuring Associate Professors of Urban Planning Studies Dr Nancy Holman and Dr Alan Mace seeks to answer that.

As London faces a severe housing crisis, it needs to build more housing to meet people’s needs. But, as the decision has been made not to build in the greenbelt, much of this housing will need to go into the suburbs where resistance to higher density development may be higher. The film explores the relationship between design and density and suggests that relying on design as a method of making higher density development acceptable may not produce more popular or less controversial schemes.
